Have You Seen Or Herd?
For their performance on May 5, 2007 at the Brooklyn Museum's Sackler Center for Feminist Art, the Brainstormers dressed as women from the 1960s, complete with beehive hairdos and cat-eye glasses. Though their personas were inspired by Tupperware Party hostesses, their offerings to “guests” were not so benign. Ever-smiling and refined, the Brainstormers demonstrated possible activist responses to gender inequity in the New York art world. This performance culminated in an explosive letting loose of any sickness caused by sexism as the four Brainstormers demonstrated how to “vomit” colorful sculptures inside the gallery spaces of promoters of sexism.
